We've visited in September (25+ deg. outside) and inside it wasn't cold at all, so no need to carry heavy jackets or clothing - a light sweater was more than enough.

I would add this to the list of must-see when visiting Tenerife.

A unique view of Tenerife, something else than all the mass tourist attractions. Beautiful lava formations with enthusiastic guides. For every age!

Be very careful with your belongings. We just did the tour today, parked our van at their parking lot and the tour company told us we had to leave all our belongings in the car. When we got back, our car window had been smashed and our van had been broken into. The tour company told us this was the first time this ever happened, but the police said its somethings that happens there. The tour company just said sorry it happened. Cave was nice, but it was a very bad experience.

This is a 'must do' while on Tenerife. Take a tour of a volcanic lava (cave) tube system with knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides. Offers something for the whole family. Comfortable footwear, long sleeved top (fleece is fine but lite rain coat if it's damp) and trousers/jeans and you'll be fine. They supply (free) hard hats with headlamps for your safety. Turn up, tune in and enjoy!

Book online 2-3 days in advance, there are limited places every day - which make the tour feel more personal and also keeps the footprint left by the visitors to a minimum. It's also a lot cheaper to book directly.

It's the perfect introduction - the taster - for other longer and more challenging tours.

Although the actual lava tube visit is just 200metres long, it is indeed a unique experience and the 2.5 hour activity is a geology lesson, forest hike and much more rolled into one, an easy family activity. Guide was enthusiastic and passionate about the subject and personally involved in working to explore more into the lava caves and study of volcanoes undertaken by the Government. We booked the english tour time slot several weeks in advance online on their website.

I won't spoil it too much, but, as one of the guides says, it's not just an activity, "it's an experience", enjoyable for both your mind and your senses.

If you don't have a car, easiest way is to take a bus to Estacion Icod, then a taxi up to the info point (6 Eur at the time of the review). We went back from the cave to the bus station by foot (45+ min), was a great way to get the pulse of the area - seeing the local flowers, the lemon, avocado, banana and pomegranate trees - it made the experience complete.

No backpacks allowed on the tour and advisable not to leave anything of value in the car either as thieves are known to operate in the car park. The floor inside the lava cave is left in natural state, is very bumpy and sharp and good walking shoes with thick soles are a must. Sandals/flip flops/heels are all prohibited. Also not suitable for mobility impaired or for pushchairs.

First of all, this is a ride for everyone - small children to old people. It's not energy draining elbow crawling super-tight space type of activity, but a light, exciting and full of knowledge-gathering kind.

The drive to reach the place from Icod Vinos is rather steep (30 degree angle road) and better to keep that in mind. Also advisable to use the toilets in the office as there are none during the next 2 hours.
